Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium is a cricket stadium. The stadium plays host to the IPL franchise Sunrisers Hyderabad. After the Hyderabad cricket association (HCA) had limited access to Lal Bahadur Shastri Stadium which belongs to the Sports Authority of Telangana State – the HCA proposed to build a new stadium.
Also because of its size, Lal Bahadur Shastri Stadium was considered very small to host international matches. The first international match here was played between India and South Africa in 2005. Since then, India has played 4 games at the venue and it is not a happy hunting ground as they have lost 3 out of the 5 ODIs played. However, India has had success in Tests, winning 2 out of the 3 games.
Now Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket stadium is regarded one of the professional and busy Cricket stadiums that Extend across 16 acres and has a seating capacity of 60,000 spectators.
The Ends are Pavilion End and North End (V.V.S Laxman end). Floodlights are also mounted on six towers to illuminate the stadium during day-night matches, floodlights were commissioned in April 2007.
It is the home ground of Sunrisers Hyderabad.
How Does The Pitch Play?
The wicket of Rajiv Gandhi cricket stadium is considered as a flat track. This means that the spinners would enjoy bowling here than the pacers. India almost chased down 350 in an ODI against Australia. Sachin Tendulkar scored 175 runs on this pitch, which has a reputation of being batsman friendly and high scoring pitch.
