The Feroz Shah Kotla Ground is a cricket stadium. It is located in Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg, New Delhi. It was established in 1883 and also it is the second oldest international cricket stadium that is still functional in India, after the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
Kotla Ground is run by politicized Delhi and Districts Cricket Association (DDCA) – has witnessed a number of feats, most notably Anil Kumble’s 10 in an innings against Pakistan.
It is the home of Delhi Ranji team and IPL franchise team Delhi Daredevils. The Stadium gets its name from its Location. It is in the vicinity of the Feroz Shah Kotla, a fortress built by Sultan Feroz Shah Tughlaq.
As it was established in 1883 so the ground has undergone some heavy reconstruction over the years. The locals also call this ground “Kotla” which means citadel or fortress.
How Does The Pitch The Play?
The pitch at Firoz Shah Kotla has largely been batting friendly. However, on 27 December 2009, an ODI match between India and Sri Lanka was called off because pitch conditions were classed as unfit to host the match. Based on match referee’s report of the match, the ground was banned by ICC for 12 months and returned as one of the venues for the 2011 cricket world cup.
Nowadays the pitch generally remains slow and low. The women’s game also favored spin and had low bounce. Although DDCA has thrashed the stadium respect by not making a standard pitch now we can definitely say that it started supporting spinners.
